HOW TO HELP
IF YOU FIND A PETREL IN DISTRESS, OR ANOTHER SEABIRD, HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Contact the SOS WILDLIFE NETWORK - Mobile Phone 961 957 545
It is the young seabirds that are most affected, because when they first leave their nests on land towards the sea at night, they become disorientated and confused by the excessive lighting of urban centres, especially near the coast, and end up falling on land and colliding with buildings, lampposts, cars and other city structures.
-Approach the bird slowly
-Use a cloth, blanket or jacket and cover the bird
-Hold the bird, wrap it completely and put it in a cardboard box
-Contact the SOS WILDLIFE NETWORK - Mobile 961 957 545
-If this is not possible, contact the National Republican Guard (GNR) - Phone: 291 214 460
Throughout the year, sea birds that nest in the Madeira Archipelago may be attracted by the lights and fall ashore. The most critical period for the Zino's Petrel to fall is September and October and for the Bugio Petrel in December and January.
